Protea Wagyu Co
Certified Wagyu Beef from a collective of dedicated Southern African producers. From farm to fork — with full accountability.
About Protea Wagyu Co
Protea Wagyu Co (PRWC) is the Wagyu division of Protea Reserve Co. It brings together independent Wagyu producers under one collective — providing them with market access, supply coordination and the infrastructure to realise value from their product.
Protea Wagyu Co does not own a farm or herd. Every animal is produced by an independent farmer who has committed to the Protea quality standards and certification requirements.
The collective model allows even small producers — with as little as one or two carcasses per month — to access markets that would otherwise be unavailable to them as individuals.
The Model
The Collective Producer Model
Small Producers
Producers supplying one to two carcasses per month are welcomed. The collective creates a viable market that would not exist for them individually.
Larger Producers
Volume producers gain sustainability and the motivation to build a brand, backed by the security of collective market presence.
Shared Standards
All producers commit to Protea quality and certification requirements. One standard. One reputation. Shared by all.
Market Access
Protea facilitates slaughter, supply and sales. Farmers focus on farming. Protea handles the route to market.

Quality and Certification
Protea Wagyu Co producers supply Certified Wagyu Beef (CWB). Certification is independently audited by SAMIC, ensuring that all product meets the required standards before entering the supply chain.
All animals are registered and tracked through the Logix system managed by SA Studbook — providing a verified record of animal identity, breeding and production information.
Protea Wagyu Co is ethically produced and hormone-free. Every producer in the network commits to these standards as a condition of supply.
Full Traceability
Every Protea Wagyu animal is registered on the Logix system via SA Studbook. From breeding record to carcass, traceability is built into the foundation of the Protea Wagyu model.

Quality Indicator
The Marble Score
The marble score (MS) is the primary quality indicator for Wagyu beef. It measures the density, distribution and evenness of intramuscular fat across the cut.
A higher marble score means more fat woven through the muscle — giving the beef its characteristic buttery flavour, extraordinary tenderness and long, rich after-taste.
Protea Wagyu Co maintains independent SAMIC-audited grading for all product entering the supply chain. Every carcass is measured before supply is confirmed.
